Human resources need to be more human and humane!

This is a true story!

Before embarking on a new journey for my new venture, I was actively searching for a job on LinkedIn and other platforms. I applied for many jobs. In this process, I came across three different types of companies and human resources departments.

  1. Companies that acknowledge the receipt of your application immediately and later inform you about its progress, acceptance or rejection (even automated responses).

  2. Companies that do not acknowledge the receipt of your application but later on inform you of its rejection.

  3. Companies that never communicate with you about your application.

I also reached out to the HR directors and managers via LinkedIn messages to follow up with my applications, which in some cases never received any response.

This is sometimes frustrating as you spend so much time reading about the company, writing a customized cover letter, and updating your CV to ensure standing out among hundreds of applicants. However, some never get back to you with a response or the final decision.

Human resources need to be more HUMAN and HUMANE.

Do not simply think that the applicants need a job, so it is me (the company or the boss) to be thanked. Look at it from the other angle, the applicant not only believes in you and your company but your vision and leadership!

In short, we need to appreciate the effort and time of the people who are trying to join our team. Talk to them and let them know what happened. Write them a simple email or message, even if two lines, to close the loop.

Let's support each other to grow this professional community.

The small things matter!
